Conventional VS Digital Impressions
Conventional impressions have never been the most comfortable method for taking impressions of the teeth. They often use goopy mixtures that must stay in your mouth for a certain period of time to harden. Digital impressions negate the use of goop, eliminating gagging and discomfort. Here at Bailey Orthodontics, we use an iTero scanner to take accurate digital impressions of your teeth and jaw. This allows us to eliminate the use of tray and putty impressions. Conventional impressions can be incredibly unpleasant and often require multiple rounds to take a usable impression. The iTero scanner creates a more accurate impression, which results in improved treatment, as well as a comfortable experience for the patient. They also allow you to see your teeth instantly in 3D.
How Does iTero Scanning Work?
ITero scanners help to digitally capture the structure of the teeth and gums by using advanced optical technology. These scanners are compact, hand-held wands. After your orthodontist begins the scanning process, it can be adjusted as often as required. These scanners use a laser that is completely radiation-free to scan the inside of your mouth. It can take the impression in around two to three minutes. The use of the laser helps to render a perfect, 3D digital impression of your teeth and soft tissue structures. Digital software will allow you to track the progress of the scans, which will include a 3D model of your teeth on our computer screen. An iTero Scanner can be used for any orthodontic or dental treatment.
