Different types of braces
There are many options for orthodontic treatment and types of braces. Due to the advances in orthodontic techniques, traditional metal braces are no longer the only way to obtain a beautiful, straight smile. No matter what your orthodontic needs are, we can provide orthodontic treatment that works for you.
Traditional Metal
Traditional metal are the first thing you think of when you consider orthodontics. They are the kind of braces used most commonly. Orthodontic innovations have allowed them to be exceedingly comfortable. They are made of stainless steel and work by straightening your teeth through the use of metal brackets and archwires. Metal braces also are able to add colored elastics for a more unique look.
Self-Ligating
These types of braces are created from the same kinds of things as traditional braces. The main difference between self-ligating braces and traditional braces is that self-ligating do not need elastics for tooth straightening, which results in fewer orthodontic appointments, as well as less pressure on the tooth. These come in multiple kinds of materials.
Metal, clear, and ceramic brackets are all available options. They are the same size as traditional metal, but they use a specialized clip in place of elastics. This helps the archwire to guide the teeth into their correct place. This clip reduces the overall amount of pressure that is being placed on the targeted tooth, which also results in fewer necessary adjustments because elastics won’t have to be replaced.
Clear (Ceramic)
Ceramic braces are made by using clear materials which allows them to be much less noticeable on your teeth than metal varieties. Due to this, they tend to be used mainly for adult or teenager patients with concerns over the appearance of braces. While they are less noticeable, they do result in more necessary attention to oral health. These are larger and more brittle than metal alternatives. These types of braces tend to be used much more on upper front teeth than on the lower teeth.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are becoming increasingly more popular for orthodontic treatment. They are a series of invisible, comfortable, and removable acrylic trays. They straighten your teeth like braces. The aligners are both invisible and removable, so clear aligners will have no impact on the types of food you eat. It will also make it easier to clean your teeth during treatment. These types of braces are exceedingly comfortable and don’t have any metal that may cause mouth abrasions during treatment.
